FAQ

What is the difference between the 160N and 185N?

The Crewfit 165N is a more affordable option for a safety lifejacket for beginners to intermediate kayakers who do not want to spend too much upfront cost but still want to have the safety features of a proper lifejacket. The life jacket is compact and comfortable enough for a wide variety of water activities from rock fishing to jet ski riding.

The Crewfit 180N has all of the features mentioned, plus a couple of bonus advantages. First, it has a higher buoyancy rating which is suitable for heavier body type; or for people who wear extra clothing like a warm jacket that would be heavier when soaked in water. Second, the Crewfit 180N Pro has a "sports bra" design, meaning it will conform well with most body shapes so that you won't feel it on you for the whole day. Third, the 180N sits on the shoulders a bit better and is less irritating when you are on the water for extended periods.

How do they work?

Once the inflation tag is pulled a canister on the inside of the jacket releases air into the inner lining of the jacket that inflates.

Does the life jacket need to be serviced?

You need to have it serviced within a year of the date of purchase. If you can’t remember when you purchased it or when it was last serviced, it is recommended that you have it serviced immediately.

Will this life jacket self inflate?

No, This particular life jacket does not self inflate. It is a pull tag system.

What is the difference between a buoyancy aid and a life jacket?

Buoyancy aids are designed to help you swim if you fall out for example, whereas a life jacket is designed to keep a person afloat without the need to swim.

What does the N stand for?

The N stands for Newton and this is known as the newton range.

This is an indication of how buoyant the Buoyancy aid/life jacket is.

How can I tell the difference between a life jacket and a buoyancy aid?

You have a look at the N rating. As a general rule, anything above 50n is considered a life jacket.

I have a boating life jacket can I just use that?

You can but it will be uncomfortable and will sit around your nose when sitting in a kayak.
